Nason’s Creations Inc was commissioned by the Millers of Schultz Miller to perform the framing and steel erection of their new residence in the Sunset Hill neighborhood of Seattle, WA. Additional photos found here.
The project was challenging given the heavily incorporated exposed, finish level, structural steel, Port Orford cedar timber framed roof systems and a concrete slab finished floor.
Nason’s Creations Inc worked with Terry and Debbie on the slab prep work in the main house. Terry’s wisdom and experience told him that given the large amount of radiant heat, plumbing, conduit, structural steel, and insulation required under the slab it would be best for us to be involved to ensure that no miss alignment or puncture issues would occur.
The roof of the home was fully constructed of Port Orford Cedar beams, rafters, and car decking. The beams were machined by FraserWood Industries using their Grainmatched Glulam Process. This process uses an ultra thin kerfed blade to slice the beam and then re-laminate the beam as a glulam increasing both strength and stability while preserving the look of a solid timber. Note the free spanning three foot over hangs at the gable ends of the home. To ensure longevity of the look and prevent sagging with time NCI created a unique process of construction which added superior strength and rigidity to the design.
Throughout this project we worked very closely with Terry, Rick Sunberg, Jeremy Imhoff, and Dan Say of SSF to create Ricks vision for the home. We appreciate Terry’s confidence and mentorship on this project.
